Dinner With Friends: The Village of Hope

Elks Lodge, 133 Main St, Penn Yan, NY 14527

The Yates Young Professionals are planning a unique dinner to benefit a local non-profit organization.

Dinner With Friends: The Village of Hope, which will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday, April 14 at the Elks Lodge in Penn Yan, will feature foods that harken back to the days of the Hopeton community. That community, sometimes referred to as simply “Hope” on some old maps was settled by followers of the Universal Friend, Jemima Wilkinson in the late 1700s. The menu for Dinner with Friends will feature foods prepared by Chef Ben Comstock, who spent hours at the Yates County History Center researching period recipes.

The April 14 dinner will kick off with Rooster Hill cider served by Lucy Danks. Comstock’s menu includes a cabbage salad topped with toasted chestnuts, root vegetables, and crispy mushrooms served with a brown butter apple vinaigrette.

The entrée is herb encrusted roasted pork loin, stuffed with garlic and onion with a cider demi-glace, served with a kasha salad with drived fruites, fresh apples and chestnuts, and a roasted sweet potato and parsnip salad with a maple walnut pesto.

Pastry Chef Heidi Fecik will prepare Molasses Bourbon Cake to top off the evening.

The Yates Young Professionals approached Friends of the Outlet in 2017 looking for a way to help the local organization. “After discussing our plans to increase our event schedule and profile, and the need for an event space to facilitate that, they decided to help us raise funds and put on a unique event to support that cause,” explains Friends of the Outlet Director Phillip Rahr, who is chair of the Friends’ Community Relations Committee.

The Friends of the Outlet have plans to make improvements to the Cascade millsite, not far from Hopeton, to establish an event space where various gatherings activities can be held. Proceeds from this dinner will be used to help fund those improvements, which will begin later this spring, and will be featured as part of the Walk for Water on National Trails Day, June 2.

Funds secured by the Friends of the Outlet from the Yates County Tourism Advisory Council have enabled the Friends to establish an expanded schedule of events throughout the year, and the improvements at the Casecade Millsite will provide event space for use by the Friends and the community.

Tickets, $35 per person, for Dinner with Friends are on sale now through March 31, and can be purchased at LNB (Lyons National Bank), Stork Insurance, or online at www.KeukaOutletTrail.org.
