The
temperature-moderating lakes have made Yates County “Wine
Country” by providing ideal grape growing conditions.
With over 5,000 acres of vineyards,
Yates County is the largest wine grape growing county outside
of California. We are home to over 20 world class wineries,
many of which have gained national and international recognition
for quality.
Symmetrical rows of hillside vineyards frame the lakes with
a changing palette of textures and colors, from silhouetted
vines in winter to the delicate flowers of spring, followed
by the lush green leaves of summer, climaxed by the multi-colored
grape varieties during the harvest each fall. Throughout the
year, our wineries welcome visitors for tours, tastings and
hospitality.
The real bonus is the variety of special events that take
place nearly every weekend or are coordinated by the local
wine
trails. Food is a natural partner with wine and
our events give you the opportunity to sample vintages and
enjoy local “gustatory delights.”
Also we have something for the amateur wine maker as well.
Check out where to find wine
making supplies while you are visiting. Then
you can compare your purchases to your own homemade treasures!
